The Navy reported a search aircraft from the Carrier Philippine Sea sighted nine bodies in the Pacific area where a Pan American plane vanished last Friday. One body appeared to be in an airplane seat amid the 44 aboard the Romance of the Skies, which disappeared after 5 04 p.m. on the west coast.
The Kansas City Local of the International Bakery and Confectionery Workers of America calls on international president James G. Gross to resign to avoid AFL-CIO expulsion. Over 500 members voted to force the union's general executive board to oust Gross per AFL-CIO directives amid corruption charges.
Washington reports that the United States and Britain will proceed with delivering about 1 500 rifles and 50 000 rounds of ammunition to Tunisia despite French objections. French Premier Gaillard protests threaten to derail arms shipments while Paris weighs Algeria crisis. Pineau travels to Washington to confer with Eisenhower and Dulles.
Morley Heads Farm Group elected Er Ie Mahlon Morley as chairman of the Neosho County Agricultural Extension Council for 1958 at the annual meeting in Neosho. Marion Showalter remains on the board as a member. Ruth I Wells spoke on duties and responsibilities. The all day meeting at the Christian church featured a noon turkey dinner.
A widowed mother of six from Guymon Oklahoma Mrs Elmer Leon Baker sues for 25000 damages in district court for her husband death in a June 14 car truck collision on U S 83 four miles south of Garden City His husband was a Century Refining Co truck driver in Garden City and part of the suit names Walter Keith Wildey of Edmond Oklahoma as defendant.
Charles Frye Jr. of Logan filed a U S District Court suit against Dr A F Winter alleging a dentist's drill dislodged during treatment lodged in Frye's left lung and required removal surgery. Frye, formerly of Logan and now in Boynton Beach Florida, seeks 75000 in damages.
Washington reports Eisenhower seeks bipartisanship on foreign policy by inviting Adlai Stevenson to meet Secretary Dulles before the Paris Allied summit. Stevenson will discuss tentative NATO proposals and decide how much support he can drum up in Congress.
A 1956 Chevrolet owned by Har ry Heckethorn senior high coach sustained major front end damage in a collision with a 1954 Buick at Third and Santa Fe yesterday at about 2 55 p m. Dennis Russell 18 of 1501 N Garfield was cited for reckless driving after his foot slipped off the brake and prevented turning the jog in Third. Russell claimed he had Heckethorn's permission to drive the car and his hearing is set for 8 a m Tuesday.
President Eisenhower warned that space age weapons will require a very considerable boost in defense spending and force cuts in some nonmilitary programs next year. He urged intensified science training, basic research, and a stronger warning system while stressing the Russian threat and asserting no tax cut will emerge amidst rising arms costs.
The FBI arrested Samuel Hugo Weston of Washington on suspicion of the November 12 robbery of the First State Bank in Commerce Oklahoma. He was taken into custody around 2 a.m. on a complaint filed in Miami Oklahoma and will be arraigned later today. The agency did not release arrest details.
An 8 year old Salina boy named John Mattison, son of Mr and Mrs Keith Mattison, was struck and killed by a car while walking home from school yesterday.
Khrushchev quips on rockets and U.S. relation at a Moscow gathering. He jokes about Britain as a U.S. satellite, apologizes for a comment, and proposes to toast armies of the Soviet Union Egypt and Syria while discussing testing or sinking rockets.
About 153 guests toured Murray Hill school this morning as Education Week demonstrations continued. At Hutton 35 guests attended and 10 visited Roosevelt fourth grade yesterday. Lincoln had nine visitors this morning, with students from Alcott also present. Royster Junior High welcomed 14 visitors. Senior High guests are expected tomorrow for a 9 30 a.m. junior class assembly in the Little Theatre directed by Oleva Lewis. Traffic fatalities reported by the State Accident Records Section show 2 in the past 24 hours and 475 to date in 1957, compared with 583 in the same period in 1956. One previously unreported fatality is noted.
A 60 foot deep gaping hole 150 by 75 feet opened on Ravenna Boulevard in Seattle, forcing evacuation of 75 people from nine homes and a five unit apartment, as sewer and water mains failed and a gas main ruptured. The crater grew rapidly and footsteps of steel beams were sunk to shore up the sides. Water backed up through storm sewers near the University Village Shopping Center as the area faced escalating danger.
The Census Bureau reported the U.S. population rose to 172,069,000 as of October 1. This marks a 14 percent increase or about 21 million since the last census and a 1.8 percent rise since October 1, 1956. The overseas armed forces total reached 57,000 on October 1.
Washington A White House spokesman called as completely false a report that President Eisenhower's chief aide Sherman Adams plans to resign James Haggersy dismissed the Pearson column as accurate as the report he had on Haggersy both are completely false.
TOPEKA forecasts partly cloudy nights and Friday with a cooler night and mid 50s Friday. Fog and overcast were clearing eastern and central Kansas with drizzle and some rain yesterday. Overnight lows ranged from 27 Hill City to 48 Pittsburg as temperatures stayed mainly in the 50s today.
Representatives of Santa Fe Railroad and 15 nonoperating unions met with National Mediation Board members Francis A O'Neill Jr. and Robert O. Boyd in a bid to resolve a quarrel over a union shop. Unions represent about 42000 telegraphers and related workers, with a possible strike date pending further talks in Chicago.

Neosho Memorial Hospital is nearing completion of a 60-kw emergency power unit funded half by Civil Defense. The diesel unit will power all hospital needs in an emergency except air conditioning and can serve other community emergency uses. The hospital board’s Tuesday meeting covered routine business.
The Kansas Corporation Commission will hold a hearing on February 3 regarding United Telephone Co. request for a 296,130 dollar annual rate increase across 58 exchanges. The Abilene headquartered firm serves about three thousand customers with major exchanges in Fredonia Hiawatha Horton Osawatomie Russell WaKeeney Osborne Burlington Garnett Hill City and Horton.
