Four offices in a downtown Independence building were broken into Sunday night, including the Girl and Boy Scout offices. The Girl Scout office reported $37.40 in cash, a $1,337 check for the Community Chest drive, plus smaller checks stamped for deposit only. The Boy Scout office lost $125 in cash. a radio was also stolen from another office, while a fourth office was ransacked.

Car Crash Damages Two 1957 Automobiles
A collision on US 169 three miles south of town at 3:30 p.m. yesterday involved a 1957 Olds driven by J Brooks Bline of Wichita and a 1957 Mercury driven by Kenneth Garner of Coffeyville. Garner’s car struck Bline’s from the rear as he prepared to turn left. No serious injuries. Bline and his passenger were unhurt. Damages were about 500 for Bline’s car and 406 for Garner’s car.

A burglary suspect in custody at Coffeyville admitted participation in break ins at Galesburg and Erie high schools on Thursday night. Billy Ace Gregg, 28, of Coffeyville, gave the statement, with Louis Earl Kelly, 20, also of Coffeyville, in custody. They were nabbed at an implement agency in Coffeyville Friday night, with items from both schools found in their possession.
