Tanker Blast in Houston Kills Eight and Injures Dozens
The Amoco Virginia tanker burned for 19 hours at Hess Terminal in Galena Park near Houston after explosions aboard the 12,000 ton vessel. Captain R R Combs and six crew members died. D H Chandler drowned aboard the ship. Firefighters, FBI, Coast Guard, American Oil Co, and Hess Terminal investigated the blaze and limited access to the area.

The Boerstler May American Legion post dedicates a plaque listing 33 Neosho County WWI dead, to be unveiled at 11 a.m. on the Memorial Building north side, with Hugo T. Arkansas Fires Fatal to Eight
In Gould and North Little Rock incidents a mother sees charred remains of her two room home as eight people die in two separate fires. A 35 year old mother Mattie Lacy and her 39 year old partner Lucious Williams lost children in Gould. In North Little Rock William I Wright Jr 30 his wife 26 and their children Mark 6 Colleen 4 perished with Wright an executive of a charter airplane service. Fire officials cited unknown causes and a floor furnace blast in the second blaze.

Injuries Fatal To Mulvane Woman
Mrs Myrtle W Roberson 63 of Arkansas City died in a Wichita hospital from injuries after a car train collision in Mulvane Sunday night. Her husband James 69 was treated for arm and leg cuts and a jaw injury. State Patrolman Bob Lemon said Roberson lost his way in Mulvane and attempted a turn around on a street facing Santa Fe tracks as a freight train struck the car.

Escapee Bobby Page Captured in Pittsburg
A 16 year old Pittsburg boy identified as Bobby Page, an escapee from the psychiatric ward of the Boys Industrial School at Topeka, was captured at the Santa Fe depot yesterday by police and held in the city jail for return to the school.

Dogs at Large Kill Sheep and Pheasants at Rule Home
At 3 a.m. today two dogs ran at large and killed two sheep and 10 pheasants at 1709 West Main, injuring a third sheep that had to be killed. Mrs. Rule reported one dog captured and sent to the pound. damages were agreed with the owner of the remaining dog. The pheasants were in an elevated wire pen and damaged as they panicked.

Vice President Howard Hague and Secretary-Treasurer J W Abel each shed about 11000 from 35000 yearly. Twenty nine district directors at 16000 and other staff also left payroll. McDonald and staff kept travel and expense allowances during the strike.

A 15 year old Chanute boy admitted involvement in breaking into two Elsmere homes. He said he was with an Elsmere youth. The boy and his father will confer with Allen County authorities on disposition. About $10 was reported missing.

Two Persons Injured In Freak Accident
Mrs Fayetta Harrod, 60, of Olathe Kansas, halted at a stop sign when her car allegedly locked steering and accelerator causing the vehicle to circle and strike her. She was thrown from the car as it passed over her, fracturing her pelvis and causing a concussion. The other driver was hospitalized for observation.
