Fatal two car crash 3 miles north of here
One person died and two were injured in a two car crash on US 169 about 5 p.m. Thursday three miles north of here. Mrs. Ercie Beach, 67, of Chanute, died at 11:30 p.m. at Neosho Memorial Hospital. Injured were Mrs. Velma Sutcliffe, 65, and Mrs. William Gambill, 30, both treated and released or hospitalized with scalp wounds. Sutcliffe’s 1972 Cadillac was southbound when it left the roadway and was hit by Gambill’s 1967 Plymouth. Other passengers included Steven E., 6, Tammy, 10, and Teresa, 11. The incident raised Neosho County 1971 traffic fatalities to 14. Gibson-Koch Chapel in charge of arrangements.
