Christmas Decoration Fund Nears $850 Goal
Contributions to the Christmas street decorations fund have climbed to nearly $850, said Joe Melnyk, Chamber of Commerce manager. Donors are urged to contribute immediately as the decorations committee plans to buy street stringers bulbs intersection stars tree silhouettes and plastic roping. Insurance Executive Dies in Kansas City
Cliff C. Jones 81, Kansas City insurance executive and civic leader, died Tuesday. He retired as president of R. B. Jones & Sons Inc. in July due to health. At his death he was honorary chairman of that firm and the Kansas City Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Jones was a director of Kansas City Power & Light Co. and Commerce Trust Co. X Ray Survey Underway In Chanute Neosho County
More than 1 000 people in south Chanute area have been X-rayed by the State Board of Health mobile unit as part of Neosho County survey. The unit logged 223 X rays at Chanute division highway offices and at nearby homes yesterday. It moves to Ash Grove cement plant today and to the Memorial building for six days of public screening next week. Hours at Memorial Building are 2 to 4 30 p m and 6 30 to 9 p m this week and 10 a m to noon 4 to 6 p m and 7 to 8 p m Friday. X rays are free for residents 20 and older. Other towns visited include Thayer Galesburg St Paul Erie and Stark with counts listed.

A Tuesday night blaze caused about $60,000 damage to the Fairmount Christian Church in Fairmount. Custodian Edward Zimmerman linked the fire to a basement storage room for choir robes. The church and offices are valued at $300,000 per Pastor Dr. Christian A. Wright.

Tony Sutterfield nineteen from Mountain Home Ark died when a car overturned on a gravel road northeast of Belleville. Willie Foster sixteen, also of Mountain Home, was treated for cuts and bruises at a Belleville hospital. The two were with a walnut logging crew in the Munden area.
