The United States and the Soviet Union signed a five year pact to regulate nuclear explosions in engineering projects. On site inspection by Americans is allowed. Ford called it an historic milestone in arms control. Brezhnev said it advances toward stopping nuclear tests.

Kansas police survey finds few internal reviews or complaint records

Kustom radar units to track Indy 500 speeds
Kustom Electronics in Chanute provides specially modified traffic radar units to report race car speeds during Sundays Indianapolis 500. National sales manager Jim Maxton says the system will record speeds at multiple track positions almost instantly, a first for the event. ABC Wide World of Sports USAC and speedway officials initially doubted the new radar but agreed to use it.

Kansas officials announce a $1,009,800 EPA grant to begin formulating a statewide water quality management plan under legal requirement to curb pollution from sewage to runoff. Director Mel Gray says total compliance could cost up to $7 billion, with funding from federal and state sources and possible private money. K State professor eyed for Kansas agriculture secretary post
Wilbert Duitsman, professor and Ft. Hays experiment station chief at Kansas State University, has been offered the agriculture secretary post. Board members say he is the board’s sole candidate and must decide soon whether to accept with salary incentives under a proposed reorganization. Duitsman, 58, has been at Ft. Hays since 1950 and is popular with western state agricultural interests.
