A Navy enlisted man identified as Jimmie Henderson went berserk on the cargo ship Uvalde at Treasure Island near San Francisco Bay. He killed Ens. Arthur Lusk Morris and wounded Ens. R. D. Harrison and metalsmith 3.C. Jake H. Verbeak before taking four men hostage on the bridge for over two hours. Henderson, just convicted of stealing a watch, was an admitted prisoner at large awaiting confirmation of his sentence.
