Negotiations Fail In USD 413 Over Teacher Contracts

USD 413 school board and Chanute National Education Association failed to agree on contracts for 1976 77 with the teachers rejecting the final board proposal 89 24. The board then unilaterally adopted salary and fringe benefit terms while teachers planned to boycott advisory committees and extra curricular duties to express dissatisfaction.

Ford Reagan split GOP primaries boosts despite losses

United Press International reports Ford and Reagan split six primaries with Ford winning Tennessee Kentucky and Oregon while Reagan carried Arkansas Idaho and Nevada. Carter swept border states but faltered in Oregon Idaho and Nevada. Delegates tallies place Ford around 794 Reagan 640 and Carter 881 as campaign moves toward California June 8 primary. Church meanwhile claimed a political surge with his three primary wins.

Limited takeup eyed for Kansas local sales tax option

Guam Typhoon Relief Reaches Chanute Family

Chanute residents Mr. and Mrs. Otto Meek report their son and daughter and families on Guam are safe after a May 20 typhoon. Capt. Ronald Porter to Dover in July. Fred Meek to retire in August after 21 years. 1000 military families left homeless. Red Cross notes no serious injuries among dependents.
