Police reports list three non injury motor vehicle incidents in Iola. Frances Wells and Blanche Moffatt collided at Main and Forest around 5 30 PM, leaving Wells with rear fender damage. A parked truck owned by Edward Jarman was tapped, causing minor damage to its right side. Larry Wilson and Sandra Mills collided at Main and Forest around 10 10 PM, damaging both cars. An Oklahoma Picnic is planned at Riverside Park on June 3 with a noon basket dinner and afternoon program.

Last Turnpike Link Opens as Governors Shake Hands
The final link in a 719 mile turnpike system from New York City to the Ohio-Indiana border opened today. Burns Fatal to Wakeeney Woman in Home Explosion
Mrs George Knoll 38 of Voda Kansas died from burns suffered in a water heater explosion. She and her husband were burned while attempting to rescue their three children as the fire swept the home. One child Shirley Ann 7 is critical. Mary Jane 9 and George Jr. 4 expected to be released this weekend. The blast followed Mrs Knoll's attempt to light the heater.

Reactivation of Kansas Ordnance Plant Near Parsons Detailed
Rep Myron V George reports to Parsons Sun that the Kansas Ordnance Plant east of Parsons will be reactivated immediately with a survey to convert facilities for guided missile and modern ordnance production. Initial 105 millimeter artillery shell line to run, employing about 800 workers. The move is part of a four point southeast Kansas defense program backed by Kansas congressmen Darby Schoeppel Carlson and others to boost area employment and defense work. The plant, built in 1941, previously operated at capacity in World War II and again during the Korean War with up to 5500 workers.
