Kansas Treasurer outlines federal funds flow to Kansas banks
Kansas Treasurer Tom Van Sickle says federal revenue sharing plus interest totals over 22 million dollars benefiting sixteen banks in five counties until funds are spent. He notes none has been deposited in districts 1 or 5 and proposes investing in Treasury bills to boost interest. Then money would be deposited in all 105 counties under a capital surplus formula for use until expended. He argues broad bank access aids community growth, while acknowledging political factors in deposit location. He has asked the attorney general for an opinion and plans to seek legislative action.
