CAMDENTON Mo AP the girl friend of accused killer John R Abercrombie was taken into custody Sunday for further questioning Kathryn Ann Nance 24 was arrested when she visited Abercrombie 22 at the Greene County Jail in Springfield both from Tulsa Oklahoma Abercrombie is charged with first degree murder in the shooting of Mr and Mrs Cecil Bybee of Hutchinson Kansas at a motel in Osage Beach last Tuesday night Nance released Thursday after questioning has stayed at a Springfield motel Prosecutor James Roach cited new evidence but gave no details Bybee a traveling salesman and his wife were shot while unloading luggage from their car at the El Dorado Motor Lodge Sheriff Libby said Abercrombie stated I just had to kill somebody Abercrombie said he returned to his own motel and picked up Nance They were arrested near the El Dorado in a car matching a description of a vehicle seen fleeing the motel The gun used was found in the car They planned to marry when they left Tulsa on Friday May 8 Nance was a receptionist for doctors in Tulsa and Abercrombie had sold water softeners for his father

Don Lohr engel piloted the plane which crashed about 6 30 last Monday morning while spraying brush on land owned by Neal McCoy and Dale Painter. The pilot was uninjured and the aircraft damaged. The Tribune invites tips on unusual events from Chanute and the four county area and lists contact numbers for tips.

Boat accident near Ponca City drowns fear grows
In Ponca City Oklahoma a boat carrying two men and a five year old boy swamped on a lake Sunday. A passerby heard a faint cry of help and towed the boat to shallow water. The boy Stephen Lubojacky was found entangled in cables in an air pocket under the dash and was not harmed.

Long Beach Calif AP Forty five persons were rescued but 10 are missing and another dead in a fire that swept the Norwegian freighter the Sandanger at sea off Baja California. The Coast Guard said 45 survivors were picked up by the German freighter Bodenstein about 400 miles southeast of Long Beach and 20 miles off the Mexican coast. A Japanese vessel the Boston Maru reported one unidentified body aboard. Missing are the Sandanger s captain John Kellmer a stewardess Rigmor Wiers and eight unidentified passengers. It was not known whether the 10 were still aboard the blazing freighter or had taken to a life boat. Names of the survivors were not learned immediately.
