One man was killed and two others seriously injured in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 54 near Hays yesterday. The deceased was Martin S. Johnson, 45, Hutchinson.
Tip Gang Rounded Up Near Las Vegas Post Office
Dozens of officers and inspectors arrested five people near the Las Vegas post office on a tip of an imminent mail robbery. A consignment of casino money, about a half million dollars, planned for dispatch to San Francisco, was not moved after an informer warned police. Las Vegas officer George Anderson and his wife Joyce, electrician Robert Schomer, and two others were booked on conspiracy to rob the U.S. mail by force. two more questioned and a sixth sought.

Fire damages drilling rig near Ridge store on Hempen farm
A morning blaze damaged a drilling rig owned by Gordon Willis on the Frank Hempen farm three miles north of a Ridge store. The rig crew and neighbors subdued the fire after gas pockets ignited by a small warming fire. No injuries reported to operators Lewis Stroh and Robert Laver.
