Protesters stall traffic around Kennedy Airport over SST plans
Hundreds of motorists jam Kennedy Airport area in a coordinated protest against the Concorde SST set to begin service June 20. Bennett Signs Second Liquor Tax Bill in Kansas
Gov. Robert Bennett signed a second liquor gallonage tax bill and a bond issuance reform measure. The liquor tax rose from 1.50 to 2.50 per gallon with a 25 cent increase on spirits to fund alcoholism programs, while a brand posting fee was eliminated. The bond act allows advance refunding of bonds to retire outstanding issues.

ThreeCar Crash Kills Oklahoma Woman Near Chanute
A three vehicle collision at U S 169 and K 47 south of Chanute killed Crystal B. Holcomb 59 of Tulsa at the scene. John W. Bredahl 24 of Topeka ran the stop sign causing damage to his and Holcomb’s cars. Bredahl and passenger Jeffery J. Jacobsen both survived then were hospitalized with stable conditions.

Professor loses privacy battle as phone service is cut
William Duffy, a 56 year old English professor at Pittsburg State University, fought Southwestern Bell to bar entry for line inspections citing privacy rights but lost. WSU student stabbed to death in Brennan Hall dorm
Julie M. Ladd a 19 year old Wichita State University student was found fatally stabbed in Brennan Hall No 3 Sunday morning after 1:30 to 2:30 a.m. An autopsy ruled a stab wound to the heart the cause of death with no suspects named yet police suggested a link to a man seen exposing himself outside the dorm.

Chanute teen cited for DWI after East Main crash
A 17 year old Chanute girl was cited for DWI and careless driving after her 1973 International pickup overturned on East Main at 12:55 a.m. Saturday. She and two other 17 year old passengers suffered minor injuries and the vehicle was damaged about 200 dollars. The juvenile was released at 2:25 a.m.
