Boeing chairman William M. Allen said renewed SST support could require 500 million to 1 billion dollars with about a one year production delay. House backers won a loophole to restart subsidies while Senate foes vow to kill the project.

Kansas and county welfare leaders at a Wednesday conference outlined proposals to curb costs within the 46.75 million appropriated for the new fiscal year. Dr. Robert Harder said changes aim to preserve basic allowances while trimming medical expenses, expanding work programs, and mandating county welfare staff retirements at 65. Payments to medical providers for May and June will be carried over to July 1 to stay within current funding, reducing available funds for medical programs in 1972.

Erie Wayne Dougherty of Thayer reports a 1967 Chevrolet pickup stolen from a farm location one half mile north of Thayer. The theft occurred between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. today, Sheriff David Kern said.
Police arrested six men in a gambling raid at Fort George Island Golf Club in Jacksonville Florida. One man was charged with operating a gambling house after complaints from wives of participants spurred the investigation. In Washington a federal indictment charges thirteen members of the Jewish Defense League including Rabbi Meyer Kahane with conspiring to violate gun laws. Seven of the eight defendants arrested in New York and elsewhere were announced by Attorney General John N. Mitchell.
Clarence E. Dunham 34 of Claremore Oklahoma who faced an interstate transportation of a stolen airplane charge hanged himself in the Fayetteville city jail Wednesday night Police said he tied a shirt to a metal coat hanger and died during a routine prisoner check Dunham had been arrested May 2 at the Rogers municipal airport in a 1970 Cessna stolen in Larned Kansas
AP from Saigon reports over 22 000 American deaths in Indochina since peace talks began three years ago. The U S Command noted 34 new fatalities last week, the lowest weekly total in three months, lifting the three year total to 22 170 as of midnight last Saturday.
Balfour S. Jeffrey, president of KPL, announced the 680000 kilowatts Lawrence generating unit has begun feeding electricity into the state grid and said the company plans another giant plant as future power needs loom. The unit is the biggest in the KPL system and a regional power center.
Judge Charles Stewart of Pratt County District Court ruled the Kansas out of district tuition law constitutional. He found five Kansas junior colleges correctly interpreted the word resident in the statute. Barber County commissioners sued the junior colleges including Barton, Pratt, Dodge City, Hutchinson and Garden City.
