Washington AP reporting that Southern opponents dampen hopes for quick votes on jury trial amendments to the civil rights bill. Dixie bloc spokesman Senator Richard Russell warned no votes this week, with a Tuesday meeting to reassess.

A Coast Guard crew rescued six exhausted Cuban migrants and one body eight miles off Aligator Reef near Islamorada after their 18 foot craft ran low on fuel. One man died from exposure or drinking seawater. identities were not immediately learned. The group was spotted by the merchant ship Sea Train Georgia and brought ashore by a patrol boat.

Two armed men robbed the American Finance Corp in downtown Topeka of an undetermined amount. A four jet U.S. Military Air Transport Service plane crashed near Clark Field in a rain squall killing 73 of 83 aboard. The aircraft, originating from Travis AFB, stopped at Hickam and carried military personnel destined for Southeast Asia. One taxi passenger was killed and two injured as the plane struck a cab on approach. Most survivors were in bad shape. Clark Field serves as a major U.S. air base and shuttle point for forces in South Vietnam.
CHICAGO AP The last of four alternate jurors chosen to augment a jury of eight men and four women for the James R. Hoffa 20 million fraud and conspiracy trial. Hoffa and seven codefendants are charged in a 28 count indictment with conspiring to obtain 20 million in fraudulent loans from the Teamsters Union pension fund and diverting 1 million to personal use.

The Tribune announces a two week period starting today allowing high school and junior college students to place free Job Wanted ads in the classified pages. Each ad may have up to 20 words and must include name age and address. Ads can be handed in person or by letter, not by phone, to connect students seeking summer work with local employers.
Mrs. Florence Kelley says Chanute post office will survey mounted vehicles for city routes. Vehicles will be issued as routes qualify under Postmaster General Gronowski speed up and clean up order. The plan targets six day parcel post delivery on city routes, with 28 000 small offices unaffected.
Kansas traffic accidents killed three people in separate incidents on U S 54 and near Ellsworth. Mary Forbes, 34, of Eureka died when her car hit a railroad overpass two miles east of the Butler Greenwood county line. George Forbes suffered arm and possible rib fractures. Arlene Roe, 39, of Liberal died in a one car crash six miles west of Meade. Melvin Bear of Meade had only minor injuries. Clair Sloniger, 71, of Russell died in Ellsworth hospital from injuries from a two car collision south of Ellsworth Thursday.
A 1961 Chevrolet driven by Leo Frederick of Parsons sustained about 825 in damage after a passing maneuver led to a collision with a 1954 Dodge truck owned by Harold Heilman and driven by John Clark. Both vehicles damaged with 75 estimated, no injuries. The crash occurred on K47 northeast of Thayer, near US 169, investigated by Neosho County Sheriff George Neely.
Parsons asks the Kansas Corporation Commission to require Kansas Power and Light to apply the same electric rates in Parsons as Kansas Gas and Electric charges in Pittsburg and Independence. The move, filed by Parsons City Attorney Glenn Jones, aims to align KP&L rates with KP&E where KP&E argues rates are generally comparable. KP&L officials had not yet reviewed the filing and will face questions from regulators amid a broader rate investigation.
