Escapees From Topeka School Captured After Car Crash
Two 15 and 14 year old boys from the Boys Industrial School in Topeka escaped Monday night. They were found at 4 p.m. after a stolen car collision at 320 S Evergreen and an attempted car theft at 127 S Steuben. The youths identified as Jer ry Kiser and Dale Miller were returned to Topeka authorities. A 12 year old Kansas City boy accompanying them was released to his father. The stolen car, a 1955 Chevrolet, had minor damage and was to be claimed at the police station.

Kidnapped Baby Found After Dallas Abandonment
An 18 month old boy abducted Monday in Albuquerque was found abandoned in a Dallas drug store. FBI arrested a girl who admitted kidnapping the child, ending a search tied to babysitter Betty Smithey who vanished with him. The child, Mitchell Johnson, was reported in good condition.

She was brought from University Hospital where she remains under sedation after last Saturday's incident. Sheriff Bill Joyce announced her appearance as the courtroom filled with Black onlookers. Police said lie detector tests administered by a Kansas Bureau of Investigation specialist cleared a Cha nute youth of involvement in the theft of a B. F. Goodrich store safe last March. The tests followed reports the youth implied he helped haul the safe, but officers found no part in the burglary.

A dawn tornado struck Bear Creek near Manawa Wisconsin at 4 20 am damaging 15 to 20 farms in a five square mile area. Sheriff Ray Abrahamson reported no deaths or injuries and said a dairy herd was trapped in a smashed barn while county crews aided free ing livestock.

A Rock Island Railroad switchman, Thomas E. Connors, 22, will receive a scholarship after rescuing three teen girls from the Kansas River when a car plunged from a 23rd Street viaduct. One girl died.
