Senate OKs $20.1 Billion Stimulus Bill For Jobs program
The Senate approved a $20.1 billion appropriation to fund President Carter's economic stimulus plan. The package includes 4 billion for public works creating about 600,000 jobs, 7.9 billion for public service jobs, 4.9 billion for revenue sharing, and 1.4 billion for job training. The measure now goes to the White House after House passage 326 to 87.

Tornado damages farms near Petrolia and Chanute
A small tornado touched down in a wheat field about 10:30 a.m. near Petrolia, damaging sheds, grain bins, barns and utility lines on Artie Middendorf and Oca R. Johnson’s farms four miles north of Chanute. Johnson blamed the storm for structural damage and a heart attack, with neighbors helping clean up debris.
