Wizard of Oz Tonight at Chanute Memorial Auditorium

The Chanute Junior College-Senior High School presents The Wizard of Oz at 8:15 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium. All scenery and costumes were designed in Chanute, with $2,000 of new sound equipment ensuring clear acoustics. A repeat performance follows tomorrow night as part of the Spring Fine Arts Festival.

Weather outlook shows little change for Kansas

The forecast calls for generally fair weather tonight and Friday with highs near 90 and lows in the 50s. Widely scattered thunder showers are possible in the western part by tomorrow, eastern areas remaining mostly fair. Temperature extremes for the past 24 hours ranged from 91 at Chanute to 42 at Hill City.

Missouri Youth Killed In Cherryvale Mishap

George Junior Scarborough of Mount Vernon Missouri, 20, was killed in a one car crash near Cherryvale Kansas. Ralph Stokes of Parsons Kansas escaped with minor injuries after losing control and the car overturning several times. Scarborough's death marked Montgomery County's third highway fatality of 1955.

Herington Man Killed In Country Road Mishap

Lawrence Liggett a 41 year old brakeman for the Rock Island railroad was killed in a one car crash on a county road two miles southwest of Herington Kansas. Police said the brakes may have locked causing the vehicle to overturn trapping him beneath it.

Fatal crash near McCune kills man and injures wife

A 69 year old Missouri man Richard L Wright of Tuscumbia was killed and his wife seriously injured when a car ran out of control and crashed into a ditch near McCune last night.
