Britain treats addicts as patients not criminals
British policy shifts toward government clinic narcotics care reduces counts of known addicts, especially youths, and limits rogue prescribing. A veteran user notes clinics tighten control, raising black market prices, while law changes later aim to curb pushers and ease penalties for users. Experts doubt US adoption, warning illegal supply persists.

Cocktail helps heart patients cut death rate in fibrillation
Mexican physician Dr Abdo Bisteni reported at the Interamerican Congress of Cardiology that a vein given electrolyte glucose potassium and insulin cocktail halves deaths from ventricular fibrillation after heart attack. In his study two quarts daily for 24 hours plus a low sodium diet reduced mortality to 6 percent versus 12 to 15 percent with standard care in Mexico City. The method, now used in some US and European centers, is controversial yet praised for avoiding drug-related side effects.
