W Clark Wescoe 39, dean of the Kansas Medical School since 1952, was chosen by the Board of Regents to become the 10th chancellor of the University of Kansas starting July 1. He will replace Franklin D. Murphy who resigns to take a similar post at UCLA.

Weather to dip cold as Canada mass moves in
The forecast warns of a new cold air mass from Canada sweeping the northern plains within 24 hours bringing colder temperatures by Tuesday and possible snow later in the week in northern Kansas. Eastern and central towns saw sharp temperature drops with Topeka setting a March 21 record low.

Animals and Birds Roaming City Parks Eager for Spring
More than 90 animals and birds form Chanute’s growing zoo in City and Highland Parks. Deer exchanged for Caracal Sheep last year expanded to seven sheep, twin lambs arrived, and two more deer traded for wild geese peacocks and turkeys. Zoo staff led by Kenneth Dillon feed monkeys raccoons pheasants peacocks ducks geese turkeys and sheep daily. Officials consider moving to an 80 acre city tract near Santa Fe Park to allow expansion. City manager R J Hayes had traded deer for sheep with rancher Glenn Cunningham, famed Kansas miler.

Injuries Fatal To Griswold Car Truck Collision Near Humboldt
Frederick M. Griswold 53 of 1321 W. 4th died at Neosho Memorial Hospital at 3 25 a m yesterday from brain injury after a collision of his car and a truck four miles east and three miles south of Humboldt on March 5. He was superintendent for Big Chief Drilling Co and a World War II veteran. Surviving are his widow a daughter Susan Branan and three sisters. Funeral at St Paul Episcopal Claremore with burial in Wood lawn cemetery Claremore.
