The report shows 2.39 inches of precipitation since Jan 1 in Left Hand Pitch, the month’s moisture being the only significant amount so far. January 1.29 inches, February .78, March .32. February was under half the monthly average. 1955 February had 2.51 inches, bringing total to 3.67 by March 1.
Tuberculin skin tests will be given tomorrow afternoon at Chanute elementary schools and at Thayer with a Chanute doctor. Neighboring rural districts are included and cards will be ready for morning kindergarten pupils. Doctors will read tests Friday and those positive will be X rayed March 27 at Royster Junior High. Erie doctors lead eastern county efforts with yesterday tests in Galesburg and Erie and today in Stark and St Paul.
A U.S. campaign aims to send a six man civilian parachute team to Moscow for the International Parachuting Championships from July 15 to 30. They will compete against 13 other national groups in a sport-focused event.

Gangs of Turkish Cypriot youths stormed Nicosia after reports of Greek attacks. About 500 looters smashed Greek shops near Konak Square and the Mosque of St. Sophia before police dispersed the mob with tear gas. A Greek Cypriot photographer was beaten but not seriously injured.

Ordinance bans dogs running at large within the city limits. Penalty includes a fine ranging from five to one hundred dollars as enforced by the Chief of Police.
The Cheney Citizens State Bank robbery netted about $2600 before noon yesterday. A 46 year old Wichita man, Floyd Shobe, was arrested seven miles southeast of Anthony after loot was found on him. Sheriff officials stated he admitted the robbery, saying he acted for his family amid unemployment since October. A companion, W A Veatch, was cleared. The bank had no prior robberies in its 72 year history.
A 21 unit apartment building named Villa Court and an electrical shop were destroyed by fire in Waynesville Missouri last night. No serious injuries were reported. Villa Court owner is Sam Gould of Kansas City and the shop owner is R Weber and Son. No loss estimate given.
The Wilson Bar is a guest of the Neosho County Bar Association and wives for a 7 p.m. dinner at the Country Club today. A preceding golf match features members from both associations. John C. Mc Call of Chanute is president of the Neosho County group.
Washington heard two views on Army Engineer projects in the Marais des Cygnes Basin Kansas. Proponents argued dams provide flood protection and plan to seek 100000 for Pomona and 80000 for Ottawa in the coming year. Opponents warned of farmland loss and questioned flood benefits, proposing watershed development as cheaper.
Canville Township has met its $135 Red Cross quota in the annual campaign, becoming the second township in the county to reach the goal. Grant Township was first. Erie and Galesburg also met targets. Chanute aims for 7500 with 5063.66 reached. Canvassers urged to continue door to door to solicit contributions.

Senate leader Knowland warned Secretary Benson that the farm bill, approved with amendments, is unworkable in its present form and may be vetoed if not modified. The omnibus measure, passed 93 to 2, heads to a House Senate conference for reconciliation with several provisions altering price supports and the soil bank.
Volunteers at the Red Cross blood collection center in the Memorial Building expected to reach a 125 pint city quota by 2 15 PM. At noon 112 people had registered to donate and 77 pints had been collected, with Erie having surpassed its 100 pint quota yesterday at 104 pints.
A Kansas delegation urged a House Appropriations subcommittee to approve 4.8 million dollars to continue the Toronto Dam and Reservoir on the Verdigris River and to allocate 1 million for planning and start Strawn Dam near Burlington. The current plan offers 50 thousand more for planning while Congress has already provided 2.8 million for Toronto this year plus 500 thousand last year. Rep. Myron George led the Kansans with George Fox and Senators Schoeppel and Carlson set to present statements and meet budget officials. They are to testify before a Senate subcommittee Thursday.
Jefferson City police join state and local officers in a manhunt for two young black convicts who overpowered a guard to escape from a local jail last night. Alphonse Denny Davis, 19, of St. Louis, described as very dangerous, faces rape and armed robbery charges. Willie Fields, 22, was serving a burglary term and escaped from a prison farm.
Houston police missing persons bureau received a request from a Dallas woman for help locating her husband who deserted her and three children. They requested a description and she answered that he has a flat forehead and a large nose and mouth. All in all, she looks like a horse.
