Rattler Roundup Ends in Sweetwater Snakes and Bites
SWEETWATER TEX The 13th annual Rattlesnake Roundup ended with 3900 snakes snared and four men bitten. Snakes weighed 370214 pounds. Tommy Young and Bob Turner from San Angelo won the poundage contest with 678 pounds. Victory Harris and Lloyd Webb of Sweetwater caught the biggest rattler at 69 inches. Two bitten persons were hospitalized Sunday night.

Riley County Sheriff Named Kansas Outstanding Young Officer

Vandals Break 1875 Tombstone In City Alley
A tombstone dating to 1875 was broken in two by vandals over the weekend. The stone for John J. Taylor, who died January 27, 1875 at age 24, was found in an alley between Grant and Forest streets at Chestnut. Police suspect it may have been moved from Greenwood Cemetery east of town.
