A school report shows senior boys' outside employment rose to 51 percent while junior boys dropped to 38 percent and junior girls 15 percent, with sophomores at 30 for boys and 8 for girls. The median work hours range from 12 to 23 weekly.
Three candidates filed petitions for Chanute board of education seats at the city office today. Incumbents Ebur E Schultz, KE Cathers, and Walter M Poor are listed. no other candidates have filed yet. Mayor J D Lightfoot has filed for one of two city commission posts. Filing deadline is 5 p.m. Tuesday April 5 and voter registration closes at 10 p.m. Registration turnout is reported light.
Topeka reports Dodge City receives legislative backing to host the national cowboy hall of fame and museum. The Senate committee backed a concurrent resolution urging trustees to select Ford County’s town. the House has passed a similar measure. Gov. Fred Hall pledges full state cooperation for promotion of the shrine in his hometown.
A fire at the John W. Peters farm four miles south and a half mile east of Chanute destroyed a large barn and a two stall garage. About 30 pigs and two sows perished, with 50 bales of hay and seed oats also lost. The Peterses face at least 3000 dollars in damage, partly insured.
Mrs. Rudolph Sandberg a local backer of the anti nudism bill under state legislature consideration will speak at a committee hearing in Topeka at 7 30 tonight. Several Chanute residents plan to attend but did not name themselves. The bill was introduced by Neosho county Rep John Sherman Jr.

Firefighters last night tackled a fire at a Lion Oil Co gas well in Beaver County just south of the Kansas border. The blaze was extinguished after efforts by the local fire squad and state responders.
Congressman Myron George of Kansas has introduced two bills to aid farmers. One would repeal penalties in the Agricultural Adjustment Act for wheat allotments under 15 acres, the other would authorize refunds of excise taxes on gasoline and lubricants used in farming. George argues war emergency taxes on farm fuel are unnecessary and should be use based.
Two aircraft with seven people aboard were missing over Utah. One plane, a B25 from Great Falls Air Force Base, was declared missing at 2 47 a.m. after refueling at Hill AFB. It had reported a check point over Salt Lake City before vanishing.

An airplane piloted by A. W. Hoerman of Manhattan Kansas crashed after takeoff in a garden plot near Orrick Missouri. Hoerman his son Gene 21 and Lester O Cofield about 45 also of Manhattan were injured and taken to Excelsiord Springs hospital where Cofield’s injuries were described as dangerous.
Harold Rogers 41 of Bronson Kansas died from injuries from a truck car collision last Friday night fifteen miles west of Fort Scott He was treated at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.
Missouri will arrest Kansas livestock trucks that cross the border for a few blocks to reach Kansas City markets unless they hold Missouri registration. YATES CENTER Rae P. James R. Howard 24 of Wichita was bound over to district court for trial on a state robbery charge after waiving preliminary hearing. The Piqua State Bank robbery on Feb 2 netted 2100 dollars as Howard posed as an insurance adjuster and wrecked his car nearby. He remained in jail after failing to post 7500 dollars bond. he was in critical condition after the wreck and transferred to the county jail.
