Austin Bridge restoration approved by Neosho County

Kansas State Historical Society research revises the Austin Bridge date to 1872 after Tioga Township voters approved a 15000 bond on June 30. Bids opened August 10 and King Bridge Company won the contract for 13000. Bridge raised six feet by 1877. other Neosho River sites built earlier suggest Austin may be second or third across the river.

Voters Turn Out in Chanute on Warm Election Day

An unofficial noon survey shows about 20 percent of Chanute’s 5 905 registered voters have voted. Polls stay open until 7 p m with turnout tallied at Lincoln School 195, Senior Trade 70, fire station 98, North Malcolm 53, Alcott 93, Central Park 65, Royster 160, Roosevelt 118, Murray Hill 188. The Tribune office will stay open late to receive results.
