Five Santa Fe Springs California mobile homes firm officials were killed when their twin engine plane crashed during a snowstorm near Kansas City Missouri after taking off from Kansas City Municipal Airport. Reopening Tomorrow for County Lake in Kansas
Parsons, Kan. The first state lake in Kansas will reopen to fishing Saturday after about 22 years. The 96 acre lake, eight miles northeast of Parsons, opened in the late 1920s and now restocked. The Kansas Forestry, Fish and Game Commission sets daily limits of six bass and six channel catfish or six total, with regular limits on other species. Regular state limits apply for all other species.

Jet crashes near Topeka. pilot survives
A 133 jet en route to Offutt AFB, Nebraska, crashed southeast of Topeka, Kansas. Capt. R. J. Dodson of Malmstrom AFB, Montana, ejected five to six miles southeast of Forbes AFB. He was taken to Forbes hospital. condition unknown. Weather was cloudy with light snow.

Two Deaths from House Fire in Chanute
Two Chanute residents died in a daytime house fire at 814 N Santa Fe apparently started by a cigarette. Leonard Parker 65 and Elizabeth Ponder 77 were found in the home with Parker dead in the living room and Ponder unconscious later dying en route to hospital. Airman Larry Harris and his family visiting from Salina helped remove Ponder and aided the rescue effort. Funeral services for both are planned at New Hope Baptist Church with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
