Snow Blankets Chanute Area With Four Inch Depth
A soft white blanket of snow four inches deep fell on the Chanute area yesterday as winter interrupted the early arrival of spring. Precipitation accompanying the snowfall totaled .46 inch yesterday, with moisture effects melting the snow from four to three inches by 1 p.m. Additional moisture soaked the dry soil as mild sun returned. Forecast calls for fair and warmer weather with highs in the 50s tomorrow.

Two one car accidents on area highways last night and yesterday afternoon caused extensive damage and minor injuries. A 1963 Ford driven by Lindy Williams, 22, of 918 N Garfield, suffered about 1500 dollars of damage on US 169 near Chanute. Williams admitted for observation with chest pain but no fracture. A passenger, Bill Fred Beachner, 31, of St Paul, treated and released. A 1963 Chevrolet driven by Delbert J Hoberman, 40, of Fredonia, overturned on K47 northeast of Thayer. car a total loss. Hoberman and family suffered minor injuries, others uninjured. No serious accidents reported in Chanute during the storm.
