Dirt Mounds Are Products Of Gophers
In spring alfalfa fields pocket gophers create dirt mounds that smother plants and reduce roots. A simple control uses bait cubes made from baking soda strychnine and ascarine mixed with diced vegetables. Locate runways with a probe, drop bait, and cover openings to prevent soil blockage. If mounds reappear, repeat or use traps. Gassing is ineffective due to extensive tunnels.
