Frigid Liberal pancake race underway with Olney win record

Truck Fall Hurts Youth on East Main Street
Dennis Baker, 18, of 521 S. Central, suffered a slight concussion after falling from the back of a pickup on East Main Street in the 200 block Saturday afternoon. Robert Raney and Junior Roberts, both riding in the truck owned by Corky VanGotten, aided the injured youth as Baker’s fall occurred when the vehicle began moving. Roberts skinned his knee. Baker was later sent home in good condition.

Santa Fe Cars In Derailment Near Pomona
OTTAWA Kansas AP Fifteen rail cars of an eastbound 117 car Santa Fe freight derailed a mile south and a mile west of Pomona blocking two main tracks. No injuries were reported. Division superintendent H J Brisco attributed the accident to an air line break that activated brakes and a broken coupling that dropped under a car. Traffic was diverted through Topeka to Kansas City and repairs were expected later today. The train was bound for Kansas City from Emporia, with Pomona about 12 miles west of Ottawa.
