Tenants Evict Seven Skunks At 320 S Malcolm Home
Left Hand Pitch Six tenants of Marie Hamill’s home caused a stink Tuesday night as a family of seven baby skunks hid beneath the house. Hamill and two neighbors baited with milk, captured each skunk in a dip net, and hauled them away in a garbage pan. One skunk escaped back. The group learned skunks begin spraying at a young age during capture. The women continued until the mess was cleared.

Gone 15 Minutes Boy Found Drowned
A 3 year old boy wandered from supper and was found drowned 15 minutes later under a boat dock near Prairie Lee Lake in suburban Jackson County. Dennis Hendricks, son of Mr and Mrs William Hendricks, apparently fell from the dock as neighbors and family searched the area. The dock is 50 feet from the Hendricks home and owned by a neighboring family.

Wreck Injures Local Family in Tallulah Collision
Three members of Chanute family of six were hospitalized in Tallulah after a head on crash near Tallulah late yesterday. Mr and Mrs Warner Tiegreen and son Tom were injured. the other three Tiegreen children had minor injuries. The car was demolished and details were unavailable. A Humboldt resident, Fred F Geffert, was in a separate Iola area crash injuring two Iola youths. Florentine Perez 19 of Iola hospitalized with head injuries. Pete Chaves of Iola treated for minor injuries and released. Geffert was uninjured. Police investigated a non injury crash on 701 S Ashby involving Farrel Colston and Harold McMurray’s car. Colston posted a 10 bond for operating without a license. Authorities also logged minor damage to James Easley’s car caused by Fred Johnson backing from his driveway.

State Employment In Seasonal Gain In Kansas
Kansas nonfarm wage and salary employment rose from mid April to mid May due to seasonal gains. Employment reached 555,300, up from 351,600 the prior month, with a year over year decline of about 3,900 driven by transport equipment manufacturing mining and railroads. Unemployment fell from 38,100 in April to about 35,600 in mid May.

Conditional pact aims to end two week maritime strike
