In Great Bend Kansas a shortage of combines caused by rain and a lack of custom cutters delays the wheat harvest across many counties. Loyal Fortmeyer notes the harvest starts this weekend in northern counties and winds down in southern areas with muddy fields. Turnpike Feasibility Study Contested by Kansas Authority
Robert Duncan of Atchison, chair of the Kansas Turnpike Authority, said the agency is empowered to study the feasibility of a Mid-Continent toll road linking Johnson County and area with the Mid-Continent International Airport. He warned that outside studies could jeopardize revenue bonds. A 1967 law allowed up to 40000 dollars for the study, but funds were not provided by the legislature. The Kansas Finance Council shifted highway fund limits to free Highway Commission money, though funds remain under Highway Commission control.
