AP reports actor Steve Cochran died at sea near Guatemala from an acute lung infection. Dr. Abel Giron identified the body, noting the illness caused paralysis pending lab results. Cochran’s 40 foot schooner Rogue was towed into Champérico.
Four people died in Kansas traffic accidents over the weekend, including Kenneth Matthews 16 and his brother Richard 24 in Wyandotte County. Also killed were Averill Barnes 15 near Galena and Morris Evers 41 near Hoisington. Ernest LaBarge 28 near Concordia and injuries to his family followed. Missouri deaths and details from an international incident add to the toll.
A 37 year old Ileana Cole of Norfolk Virginia died when her eastbound car left U S 54 and overturned about 11 miles west of Fort Scott Kansas. Her husband Frank W Cole and their seven children were hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. The family formerly lived in Jetmore Kansas.
Oliver K. Moore, 36, died after slipping into a turbulent creek southeast of Augusta. He was employed by Beech Aircraft Corp., Wichita.

Stanley Mike East, 12, of Wichita was killed when a runaway horse he rode clashed with a car at a traffic signal. Driver Charles York, 43, said the horse bolted with the boy, causing him to be pitched onto the car. East’s parents are Sgt. and Mrs. John East, stationed at McConnell Air Force Base.
