In Chanute Kansas a white grub found on an elm leaf is identified as the Elm Sawfly larva by Ed Williams after comparing to pictures in Insects of Kansas. The insect, nine millimeters to three quarters of an inch as an adult fly, feeds on elm and other trees. Also noted are short obituaries and travel mishaps involving local residents and relatives.

Osawatomie Kansas observers report the final batch of 178 Holstein dairy cattle at the state hospital was put on the auction block. The sale began with nine cows selling to buyers from Kansas Missouri Oklahoma and Iowa for about 300 dollars each. The herd is being dispersed after the Legislature refused to fund the hospital farm beyond July 1. The highest yesterday was 600 dollars for a cow and 440 dollars for a bull.

A white-face cow owned by Bill Noakes of Erie wandered onto the highway and was struck by Everett E. Gannaway of Parsons at about 8:30 last night. The cow suffered a broken leg and was destroyed. Gannaway was uninjured and his 1949 Chevrolet was badly damaged. Sheriff Lee Montgomery investigated.
