Death of Enos Shultz Reported in Houston Aboard Shrimp Boat

Police received word of the death of Enos Shultz aged 27, son of LeRoy Shultz of 1616 S Kansas. A shrimp boat worker from Galveston Texas, he drowned on June 16 and his body was recovered a week later off Galveston.

A violent twister tore through Garden City Kansas and surrounding farms killing one person and hospitalizing at least 14. Civil Defense counted 125 homes with major damage and hundreds more with lesser damage as Briar Hill nursing home patients and residents suffered injuries and shelters opened in churches and the armory.

Neosho area reports 11 a.m. temperatures 75 high 66 low while rainfall totals reach .80 inch today and 2.30 inches upstream Humboldt. River fell over 11 feet and was within its banks at 10 a.m. after a previous 24 hours flood, while storms and a tornado or severe wind line affected western Kansas with heavy rains and hail hitting Hutchinson and Garden City.

Mohawk Air chief seeks FBI probe into crash sabotage

Mohawk Airlines president Robert E. Peach asked FBI Director J Edgar Hoover to investigate a strong suggestion of sabotage after a BACI 40 jetliner bound from Syracuse to Washington crashed near Blossburg Mountain Pennsylvania killing 34. FBI agents and the National Transportation Safety Board joined the scene as investigators.

Heavy Loss for U.S. Unit in Dak To Crossfire

An Amer ican infantry company from the 173rd Airborne Brigade suffered 76 killed and 24 wounded near Dak To in the central highlands as North Vietnamese forces ambushed and trapped two lead platoons on a forested ridgeline. About 80 men were involved. 75 were found dead and the rest wounded. The action occurred Thursday but was disclosed later for security reasons.

At the United Nations emergency session on the Middle East the Communists split into three factions. The Romanian push for direct talks drew Arab anger while U.S. President Johnson and Soviet Premier Kosygin signaled progress after five hours of summit talks at Glassboro. Baroody warned that no solution will satisfy the Arab world without Arab acceptance.

Lone Texan flies 1930 Curtiss pusher solo cross country

H G Hansen of Smithfield Texas piloted a rear propeller Curtiss pusher on a Minnesota to Texas leg landing at Martin Johnson Airport Chanute. The 10 gallon tank limits range to about 100 miles per hop while speeds vary with winds. Hansen plans to replace the 30 hp engine and uses the craft for hunting jackrabbits on his Texas farm.
