Thinclads Set For Russians
ST. LOUIS AP America's top track and field athletes vow to defend the U S record against Russia at the 75th AAU meet. A world 9.1 by Bob Hayes broke a record in the 19 yard dash, the first dead heat in AAU history and a dramatic mile. Six meet records fell, two equalled and an American record tied as 10 of 19 events posted season bests. The AAU committee named 51 men and two alternates to represent the United States in four European meets starting with the Moscow Russian meet in July. Tulane’s John Oelkers, who coached the 1962 U S team, praised the 63 squad.
