Shower planned for Opal Ging and son after fire

A shower will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Urbana community hall for Mrs Opal Ging and her son Lynn whose home on the Aces Price farm near Earl ton burned last Saturday. Lightning struck the two story frame building at noon and Thayer fire department arrived too late to save the house or contents. Refreshments will be served and attendees are asked to bring cookies.

Little Girl Injured After Being Struck By Car

Four year old Sherry Cook, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Cook of 1301 S Forest, was hit near the city swimming pool around 3 pm yesterday but escaped serious injury. A 16 year old driver Jimmie Garner of 308 S Larson was reported to have caused the incident after the girl ran into the street. She was treated at a doctor's office for a minor head bump and a skinned leg. Minor collisions were reported at Main and Grant and at 1st Evergreen involving a bread truck driven by Everett N Rhodes and a Midwest Office Supply truck. A rural Humoldt woman, Mrs R E Johnson, said her 1954 station wagon was bumped while parked at 1st and Evergreen. license number provided but offender not yet identified. Left side and rear fender damages noted.

Eight Die As Mass Crash Hits New Iberia Street

In New Iberia Louisiana eight people died when four cars piled up in a mass collision after a passing attempt near oncoming traffic. Victims include Aaron Williams Sr and three of his sons from Patentville and Rev Lloyd D Taylor a Tupelo minister. Others named are George Babineaux Jr Alvin Bodin Sebastian Laporte and Patrick Henry who was injured.

Drowning of 11-Year-Old Linda Allmon at Satanta Pool

Linda Allmon, 11, died after diving into a 12 foot deep Satanta swimming pool Monday. Parents Eugene and Mrs. Allmon have five other children. Police and investigators reviewed the fatal accident.
