Intermagnetics develops flexible niobium-tin superconducting cable
A New York firm jointly backed by General Electric and Exxon introduces a flexible niobium-tin cable that operates at higher temperatures than niobium titanium and can carry large currents in strong magnetic fields. The innovation, produced as a multfilament cable, enables rapid energizing and stable performance under changing magnetic fields with potential uses from maglev and power generation to nuclear containment control.
