Escape by helicopter from Southern Michigan Prison shocks Jackson
Dale Otto Remling, a 47 year old con man, used a red handkerchief as a signal to a helicopter plucked from outside the 30 foot high walls. He remained elusive overnight before surrendering in Leslie after police pursuit. Three alleged co conspirators were captured or sought and a helicopter pilot aided police recovery.

Leavenworth girl found beaten after kidnaping
A 6-year-old girl Tammy Perrin was kidnapped from her Leavenworth home Thursday night and found Sunday wandering dazed and beaten. She had deep facial cuts and injuries to her foot and ankle and was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center for plastic surgery. Police sought clues, with no suspects yet, while looking for her father who had moved away.
