Fire Destroys Barn Owned By Woosley
A lightning strike about 8:45 last night destroyed a barn owned by George Woosley in Chanute R. 2. The blaze claimed a new $4,000 tractor, lumber and hay but no livestock, and the barn was not insured. Emery Dewey saw the fire and notified Woosley before the Chanute fire department arrived. Woosley was unavailable due to a telephone outage.

Three Youths Die In Ellinwood Crash Near Great Bend
GREAT BEND Kansas AP three young men were killed and three others injured when a station wagon collided with a semi trailer on U S 56 a half mile east of Ellinwood. Victims were James E Weide 22 Lawrence J Huslig 21 and Joe Hamsmith 21 all of Great Bend. In hospital were Jerry L Nyberg 23 Tom Poleyn 20 and Phillip W Fox 20 all of Great Bend in satisfactory condition. Truck driver Walter L Garner 27 of Valley Center treated for shock and released. The car struck the rear of the transport then rolled several times ending on its top.
