The USC 413 board voted to raise gate admission to 1.50 for adults 1 for junior college students and 75 cents for underage students an increase of 25 cents at each level. Activity tickets rise to 6.50 and season tickets will be adjusted accordingly.
Clear to partly cloudy and very warm afternoon with mid 80s to lower 90s. Widely scattered thundershowers develop late today, increasing tonight. Lows in the 60s. Wednesday brings variable clouds and scattered showers with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Tonight may see a few intense thunderstorms. Southerly winds 10 to 25 mph, gusty.
About 50 area residents voiced near unanimous opposition to Gov. Bennett's proposed realignments of statewide planning areas at a Neosho County hearing. Rep. Randall Palmer urged keeping the nine-county SERPC while acknowledging change is likely, and regional leaders warned enlarging the region could threaten economic development and unity.
The Kansas Supreme Court unanimously upheld Senate advice and consent for executive appointments and ousted Franklin Theis from the Kansas Adult Authority. Carolee Leek replaces Theis, who must surrender authority papers, as the court preserved checks and balances in state government.
President Ford halted in Rome for talks with Pope Paul and Italian leaders en route home from Europe. The discussions reinforced NATO ties, with Leone praising Ford’s Brussels unity push. Ford aimed to advance Middle East peace prospects alongside Sadat and prepared for Rabin talks in Washington.
The Rev. Harold H. Knight of Wilson Avenue Baptist Church received a one to five year sentence after his motion for a new trial was denied. He may appeal to the Kansas Supreme Court while remain free on his own recognizance.
