The Main street widening crew continues as pipes are laid on the south side from the railroad tracks to Lincoln and on the north side in that block, making the entire Main street storm sewer system underground. The process follows delays from late pipe delivery and includes coordination with electric water and gas crews, with parking meters planned after completion. Demolition of the old Kay Hotel proceeds on schedule to clear space for new city parking lots.

Twenty Viet Cong Killed by U S Marines in Chu Lai

U S Marines killed 20 Viet Cong in the Chu Lai sector 52 miles southeast of Da Nang with no American casualties. Recreation District Tax Clarified by Londerholm

Attorney General Robert Londerholm clarified recreation district taxation under the new unified school district law. Sam Mellinger asked whether the unified district overrode existing recreation systems and whether the tax area covers July 1 1965 to the April 1967 school board election. City and County Dads Meet at Tioga Hotel

The Chanute Chamber of Commerce sponsored a joint social meeting of the city commission and Neosho county commission at the Tioga Hotel. Milt Snyder said the gathering aimed to discuss problems and interests informally and hoped to become a regular event. Break-in Reported at Chanute Livestock Auction

An attempted break-in at the Chanute Livestock Auction on E. 14th was reported early this morning. Sheriff George Neely is investigating the incident from last night. Some tools were found near the building but entry was not gained.
