Severe Storm Hits Area Causing Widespread Damage
A severe thunderstorm with 81 mph squalls and heavy rain struck the area between 3:30 and 4 a.m. causing extensive property damage from fallen trees and limbs. No injuries were reported though many streets were blocked. A Lassman Electric roof, overturned hopper cars, damaged lines, and telephones out of service were noted. Insurance reports cited home and car damage as crews work to restore services.

Severe thunderstorms lashed eastern and central Kansas with heavy rain and wind. A Missouri family of six among 13 injured in Salina area as trucks trailers and trees toppled. Driver Charged With DWI After Three Car Crash Here
Police investigated a three car crash at Lincoln and Main at 9 30 last night. Miss Mariucci 54 of 601 N Steuben was cited for driving while intoxicated and careless driving after ramming the Roberts 1963 Chevrolet causing a chain collision with the Herrin 1959 Rambler. Roberts 58 and Herrin 69 were injured minor to moderate. Roberts released, Mariucci remained in hospital. Bond set at 140 dollars. Mariucci held pending disposition. total losses listed for Roberts and Herrin.

Jess Donaldson 62 owner of Donaldson's IGA on S Santa Fe died unexpectedly of a cerebral hemorrhage at Neosho Memorial Hospital after entering at about 1 p.m. He lived in Chanute and ran the store for 13 years. He was a St Patrick's parishioner and Elks member. He leaves a wife, two sons Don and Robert, a daughter Diana Youngman, and four grandchildren. Rosary is at Johnson Chapel 8:15 p.m. and Requiem Mass at St Patrick's Church Saturday at 9:30 with graveside service at Mount Calvary Cemetery Atchison.
