Walnut Youth Drowns in Farm Pond
Paul Joseph Holding age 15 drowned Sunday afternoon near Walnut when he rode a horse into a farm pond at his home. He could not swim and two younger brothers alerted relatives for help. Rescue attempts lasted about 45 minutes with artificial respiration but he died within the hour. He attended St. Patrick's School and was active in sports. Burial planned at St. Francis Cemetery with services at St. Patrick's Church. Local officials investigated the drowning.

Youth Drowns at Resort Lake Near Wichita
PI Donald Druste, 22, of Spearville Kansas, drowned in a resort lake northwest of Wichita Saturday night. Police reported the drowning occurred during an evening incident at the lake where witnesses said he attempted to swim to shore.
