Fire damages rear seat in 1954 Plymouth near Chanute
A 1954 Plymouth owned by Paul M. Hudson of Elsmore was reported on fire near the junction of highways K39 and US 59, ten miles east of Chanute. Neosho county sheriff's office found the blaze caused by a smoldering corn cob pipe in the back seat. the fire was extinguished by the sheriff and undersheriff with damage limited to the rear seat and cushion.

A 17 year old Air Force Academy freshman, Daniel B. Tedford, died in Penrose Hospital after a fall from a second floor dormitory window at Vandenberg Hall. He suffered head and chest injuries. GARNETT Kan AP There will be no sports car races at Garnett in 1965. Loren Warner president of the Lake Garnett Racing Association said the board decided to forego any racing events in 1965. The ban follows rioting by youths during past July 4 races and a shift in U S sports car racing toward purses divisional races and end of year Riverside finals. Everett Burns councilman noted Garnett drivers only earned points and trophies and many big cars planned for Garnett went elsewhere. Fifty five people were arrested at the races this month mainly for disturbing the peace. last year 35 youths were arrested.
