Higher Phone Rates With Dial System

Conversion to dial service planned for April 1961 with Western Electric installation starting around Nov. 1 at the new dial building on South Steuben. New numbers for business customers to be assigned by Dec. 15 with letters sent to each. Dial rates to take effect in Chanute next April, including increases for one party and two party lines and rural services. taxes added. Endres notes Chanute rates match nearby towns.

Chanute Adds Dial Service With 5000+ Line Upgrade

Chanute moves to dial service for 5 000 to 9 999 telephones with new numbers assigned across the system. Inter city cable from Chanute to Parsons will be built this fall to improve long distance reliability. Kansas Corporation Commission approves revenue boost of 914000 yearly for Southwestern Bell, limited to dial service towns including Erie and St Paul.

Youth Loses Arm In Traffic Accident

Jerry S. Averill 21 of Wichita Kansas lost his left arm in a collision on a rural road near Princeton West Virginia while visiting his father in law. He was driving a car when it collided with a one ton truck. No charges were filed immediately. Averill resides at 1250 W. 49th Street in Wichita.

Neosho County Receives State Safety Award
