George A. Wheat 50 of 323 W Fifth died at 10 20 am yesterday in Ely Minnesota from heart ailment while visiting summering there. Survived by wife Marie three sons Ben Thomas James George Anthony Jr and three daughters Madelyn Joan and Mary Alice. Born May 9 1908 he held a B S from Pittsburg State College 1935 and taught industrial arts at Chanute’s Junior Trade School prior to 1941 42 academic year. Funeral is set for July 8 at St Anthony Catholic Church Ely with burial in Ely Catholic cemetery.

Rustie Harper 11 and his brother Steve 7 were lost Thursday night near the Continental Divide in Montana after straying from a camping group. Rescuers found them Friday at the 8,000 foot level, cold but in good condition. The boys huddled under a spruce tree and sang Happy Birthday as their father Rev. George Harper celebrated his 35th birthday.

Fireworks plant blast kills child and injures twenty

Firecracker Blast Kills Man in Belleville

Four Tulsa youths die in car crash near Noel
Four Tulsa youths were killed when their car failed to make a curve and struck a bridge abutment on Highway 90 near the Saratoga bridge west of Noel. The victims Freddie Wayne Montgomery William Earl McKee Earl Wayne Denny and Larry Byrd, all 18 except Denny age 19, were returning home after a visit for the Fourth of July. State patrolmen said Montgomery drove the car and that wreckers were needed to recover the bodies around 12:30 a.m.

Quads Born to Mankato Couple In City First
The young wife of Mankato school teacher Gerald Hansen gave birth to identical quadruplet girls Rebecca Christine Penelope and Deborah. Six Die In Head On Crash East Of Junction City
Six people perished in a two car collision on U S 40 east of Junction City Kansas. Three soldiers from Fort Riley were among the dead.
