Mothers Collect $1390 In Dimes Porchlight Drive
About 125 volunteer women collected 1390.08 in the annual Mother's March of Dimes porchlight drive last night. Mrs. Richard Ashley said the campaign was highly successful with teams covering all city areas. The top pair, Mrs. Glen Ashley and Mrs. Francis D. McGuffey, collected 96.12 by knocking on every door. Volunteers were provided coffee and doughnuts at the Memorial Building, with treats donated by A and P Grocery Bain's Bakery and the Dairy Bar. The drive continues through tomorrow with final tallies due Monday. Residents may send contributions to Mrs. Ashley at 946 S Highland payable to the March of Dimes.

Tragedy at Glen Ellyn nursing home fire

Driver Hurt In Accident Involving Truck And Car
Charles Bartholomew of 717 North Steuben sustained facial and chest injuries in a 12:35 a.m. crash after his car struck a parked truck on Walnut Street. He was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital for observation. Police charged him with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Driver Escapes Injury When Car Hits Tree
A 1956 Chevrolet driven by James D. Daniels, 22, of Elsmore radioed as losing control and striking a tree west of here at about 1 45 a m. Daniels was alone and uninjured after stating he fell asleep. He was fined 50 dollars plus 5 dollars costs in Erie justice court on a reckless driving charge.

Lifeline saves two workers on collapsing chimney scaffold

Farmer Killed in Icy Russell County Crash

A fire in Kansas City Kas. killed Edward A. Jackman about 12:20 a.m. The fire department says the cause was smoking in bed. The two bedroom home suffered about $1500 damage and Jackman died on arrival at a hospital.

Two bandits robbed Mark's Motor Port in Seneca Missouri early today taking $367. Attendant Gerald Golden 26 was pinned under a grease rack for 45 minutes before being freed and hospitalized not required. One bandit was armed as he forced Golden to open the register and lie on the floor during the escape. The truck driver in a room heard Golden's moans 45 minutes later.
