City fathers disallow $25000 claim over Halloween shooting
City commissioners rejected a $25,000 claim filed by Mr. and Mrs. David McCune over the fatal Halloween shooting of high school student Jim McCune in Central Park. City Attorney George Donaldson said the shooter, Charles Doudna, was not acting as a city employee at the time, freeing the city from liability. Doudna faces fourth degree manslaughter charges and is free on $10,000 bond. Erie remembers Wid Reynolds now 94 former Neosho County sheriff who received the old sheriff desk as a gift from the county board. He served four terms starting in 1909 and recalled early transport by horse and buggy and a Model T in the 1920s. He recounted disarming a revolver wielding suspect in 1909 and leading 23 non paying travelers off a train in Erie. Five Year Prison Term For Bank Holdup
Lyle Richard Johnson, 36, was sentenced in U S District Court to five years for taking part in a $12,000 bank holdup of the Twin Cities State Bank in August 1957. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of receiving, possessing and concealing $2,000 of the loot after a prior robbery trial and appeal. Johnson, formerly of Kansas City, has been living in San Diego while free on bond.
