Burns Heads Risk Board Elects New Officers in Neosho County
About 25 representatives from 15 insurance agencies attended the Neosho County Insurance Board meeting at the Tioga Inn. A L Burns was elected president succeeding Glen McLaren, both of Chanute, with Mary Alice Miller of Erie as treasurer succeeding Cleo Dalton. Paul Brennecke became secretary and Kenneth Rash of Thayer was the outgoing secretary. Burns appointed a committee to work with county commissioners. The three members are Cleo Dalton Eric Schultz and Paul Brennecke. The group meets quarterly and will next convene in April at Erie.

Dell Reed Chanute Senior High principal and Junior College dean was chosen as the Distinguished Service Award winner by the JayCees at a Chanute Country Club banquet attended by about 50 people. He accepted a plaque from DSA chairman Kay Colvin as panels of judges had named four runners up. Reed praised the honor but said it would burden him to live up to it. The event marked JayCee week and Chanute’s 20th JayCee anniversary and the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce 46th founding anniversary.
