Fidel Castro told about 10 000 people outside the presidential palace that 50 more prisoners will die before Cuba ends its current executions plan. He urged a rally of 500 000 in Havana next Wednesday in approval of the trials and killings amid international criticism.
A 1955 portable typewriter, found under a West 21st bridge, was turned in with no theft report. Police note only two inquiries about a similar machine, one from Parsons for an electric model and another about a five year old loss. A parking ticket incident involving Rollie Hydorn prompted a lighthearted police exchange with no bond due.
The department began issuing jay parking warnings Wednesday with no public notice. The Tribune reported the action and noted twenty four more warnings were issued yesterday. Violators face fines after the enforcement campaign. hydrant is cited as target.

AP reports 52 year old Paul Denman died from a shotgun blast while placing the gun in his car after work. Denman, a Liberal resident, had been manager of the National Farm Loan Association office for about two years. coroner Rob ert Byrne confirmed the details.
In Kansas City AP reports another bargaining session in the Sinclair Oil Co wage dispute with the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers union. A five percent wage increase is under consideration as fringe benefits discussione proceed. O. A. Knight, OCAW president, says no immediate strike though notices are effective after midnight. Sinclair’s offer is about 13.5 cents per hour while the union seeks 25 cents. average pay is $2.71.
Police say Mrs. Harold V. Washburn, 60, was shot twice in the head at the Washburn home with the gun in contact, despite a typewritten suicide note. Investigators report no explosive residue on hands from tests. her husband also tested negative. Coroner Dr. Dean L. Bratt ordered an autopsy.
An atomic device with no moving parts and small enough to fit in a handbag may provide long term electricity for space missions. The development, praised by the Atomic Energy Commission as highly significant, was announced at the White House on Friday.

An Austral Airlines twin engine airliner with 52 aboard crashed into the Atlantic near Mar del Plata while approaching for landing. Only one survivor was found and several bodies recovered as searchers battled stormy seas. Passengers included listed scientists Eduardo Braun Menendez and Jose Mexzadra though confirmation of their presence was not given.
In Emporia a truck rolled off a lift at Kansas Soya Products Co. last night killing driver John C. Schafer of McPherson. The lift dumped a soybean load and the brakes apparently were not set before the truck plunged backward.
Mrs. W Gates Wells of Platte City Missouri was struck and killed by a taxicab at a downtown Leavenworth intersection. Her husband serves as vice president of Wells Bank in Platte City.
A northbound Rock Island Twin Star Rocket hit a truck loaded with steel rods at a prairie crossing in Houston. The truck driver Ray Dawson, 45, Dallas, died. 23 train passengers and crewmen were injured but not in critical condition. Passengers included Mary Page, 72, Topeka, and Juanita Christianson, about 55, Osage City.
Topeka AP reports Edgar L. Williams, a Norton County farmer stockman, was elected president of the State Board of Agriculture. Williams was vice president last year and succeeds Otis Douglas of Burlington. Andrew E. Olson of Dwight was elected vice president and Howard Wilson of Sharon Springs as treasurer. Reelected to three year terms were Perry H. Lambert of Hiawatha, Olson, and Everett E. Erhart of Stafford.
Cambridge Massachusetts AP reports Harvard President Nathan M. Pusey disclosed that a former student who studied on scholarships donated two million dollars anonymously. The gift raises Harvard’s scholarship fund to fifty five million dollars for needy students.
Kansas city tax study shows Chanute with a $2 per $1,000 levy the lowest in many second class towns, total levies range from $53.08 at Minneapolis to $116.03 at Roeland Park, with Chanute’s assessed tangible valuation at $9.79 million and comparisons across Arkansas City Dodge City El Dorado and others.
Milwaukee police were alerted Friday after a 7 year old boy called for help saying his mother didn’t answer. Officers found Lorraine Wickert 27 dead at home with groceries nearby. Medical examiner ruled death from a rheumatic heart condition she had for years.
About 500 farmers and families attended the Wilson County Soil Conservation District dinner at the Fredonia National Guard Armory. Five Chanute and Thayer area farms received outstanding soil conservation awards from the Kansas Bankers Association. Winners include Dale Nelson, Orin Jaynes, Joe McGinnis, C A Stoughton, and John Bambick, with Glenn Beal presenting. Leland Brindle was elected to the Board of Supervisors, succeeding Ralph Russell. J. C. McCurdy of Iola spoke. Brotherhood Chorus of Chanute provided music. The dinner was funded by Wilson County banks and local banks in Fredonia, Neodesha, Chanute, and Thayer.
In Stuart Florida an early morning blaze at the Commodore Hotel left one man dead and a second missing presumed dead. Firemen said seven of nine guests escaped as the stucco over wood structure burned risking more victims. The missing man is 31 year old George Jackson a Rochester bartender who refused escape.
Dodge City AP reports R L Patterson of Oxford resigned as president of the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers after seven terms. Anson Horning of Larned was named president by the board. Patterson remains chairman of the Kansas Wheat Commission and a director of the Great Plains Wheat Market Development Assn.
