U S forces report heavy fighting across South Vietnam as the Cedar Falls operation in the Iron Triangle yields 286 Viet Cong killed, 64 captured, and 105 surrender in a week. Two U S planes down in combat and a river collision sinks a minesweeper.
President Johnson will seek Congress support for a three part education plan aimed at poor families. It includes a network of neighborhood child development centers, extending Head Start to three year olds, and allocating 135 million dollars to reduce class sizes and improve early grades curricula and staffing.

Washington AP reports international mail rates will rise 13 percent effective May 1. A Post Office spokesman noted the final decision on domestic rates remains under review, with domestic changes needing Congress action. International rates last rose six years ago, while domestic rates increased in 1963.
Topeka Kansas lawmakers may act on Senate reapportionment and constitutional amendments in the 1968 session, Senate Minority Leader Glee Smith said Friday. He noted the plan could affect district boundaries and legislative power.

The US Embassy confirmed after consul Harlan G. Moen notified Moscow. Wortham is to appear for the appeal likely late this month or early next.
Tokyo AP reports a Chinese military unit stormed a hideout of anti-Mao officers, arresting scores in Lanchow. The incident marks possible first violence within the 2.5 million strong People's Liberation Army amid Mao's purge. No details on casualties.

In northwest Kansas snow on the ground in Cheyenne County, with up to three inches possible in extreme western Kansas and hazardous driving conditions developing tonight.
Eva Christiansen discovered a two seat plane tied to her fence in Syracuse Utah. Pilot Bill Wright of Death Nevada said his compass failed and he landed behind the Christiansen house tying the aircraft to the fence post.
